The next CEO Breakfast, brought to you by the German Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DUIHK) and the Budapest Business Journal, will focus on a subject that affects us all, both personally and as employers, whether working directly in the sector or not: healthcare.

Our expert panel will include Dr. Judit Bidló, Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, responsible for healthcare; Dr. Ádám Nagy, Deputy State Secretary for Industry Affairs, Ministry for National Economy, responsible for strategic planning; and Dr. Tamás Radai of the Association of Health Technology Suppliers and Medial Device Manufacturers (ETOSZ).

The CEO Breakfast will explore the healthcare and pharma landscape in Hungary and the new industrial strategy for the sector recently outlined by the Ministry of National Economy.

According to the State of Health in the EU Hungary Country Health Profile 2023, spending on health in Hungary is among the lowest in the EU, with only Croatia, Slovakia, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania behind it. The numbers of doctors and nurses are below the EU average. Hungary spends less per capita than the EU average in all healthcare categories (total spending, inpatient care, outpatient care, pharmaceutical and medical devices, prevention, long-term care, and administration and others).

What is the vision of the Hungarian Government for the system? How, for example, does the government view healthcare, balancing the cost to the state budget with the investment in people, preventive healthcare and occupational health? How is state healthcare funded, how much is the government plowing in, and is it enough to support the system? What are the privatization tendencies within Hungarian healthcare, for example, in the hospital pharma sector? What is the equality of access to healthcare between Budapest and the rest of the country? What are the opportunities for foreign investors in the healthcare system and public procurement tenders under the new industrial strategy (will the government favor local suppliers in the future)? What are the avenues for cooperation between Hungary and its regional peers (and others) on innovation and R&D in healthcare?
